BOTP 2019 Bette Augustine Session A Popp

Poppies in Full Flower

Glorious poppies sway gently with the slightest breeze and can be found in many countries in endless colors.  In the spring of 1915, inspired by the sight of poppies growing in battle-scarred fields, a now famous poem called 'In Flanders Fields' was written; and after the First World War, the poppy was adopted as a symbol of remembrance.

You are invited to join Bette as students are led through the steps needed to create this lovely, original block.  Techniques will include how to plan the work order; marking the background; how to use an overlay for pattern placement and color selection; secrets of success with the needle turn appliqué stitch; working with small pieces and tiny stems; achieving sharp points and smooth curves; unit piecing; touches of embroidery; and so much more. Perhaps your “Remembrance” album block will be stitched in memory of a loved one, or simply for the joy that poppies offer in celebration of spring.
